Job Description

We are currently looking for a Safety Manager to join our team.  Based in Malta, the Safety and Compliance team ensure the development, implementation and continuous improvement of an efficient Safety Management System (SMS) and are responsible for liaising with the National Aviation Authorities for regulatory compliance matters at Universal Air.

Reporting to the Accountable Manager, the chosen candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Duties – CAMO Compliance
    • Develop the Company Compliance Management (CM) Assurance Scheme.
    • Produce and amend the Company CM Manual.
    • Monitor compliance with, and adequacy of, procedures required to ensure safe operational practices and aircraft airworthiness.
    • Draw up an audit schedule and oversee the implementation of all audits, engaging and managing staff to assist if necessary.
    • When appropriate, arrange for an external auditor to audit the Continued Airworthiness Department in accordance with procedures laid down in the Company CM Manual.
    • Request audits of sub-contractors as required.
    • Provide support to the Company as required by management.

    Duties – Safety Manager

    • Chair Safety Action Group (SAG) meetings as directed or in accordance with the Operations Manuals.
    • Implementation and oversight of SMS.
    • Management and closure of all CORs and MORs.
    • Ownership of ERP and safety manuals
    • Issuing and delivering the Safety Induction brief for new starters.
    • Designing the SMS training course according to applicable regulations.
    • Providing SMS training for employees.
    • Publishing periodic safety newsletter and other internal publications.
    • Facilitate hazard identification, risk analysis and management.
    • Monitor the implementation of actions taken to mitigate risks, as listed in the safety action plan and published risk assessments.
    • Provide periodic reports on safety performance.
    • Record and monitor safety performance indicators and review at SRB meetings.
    • Ensure maintenance of safety management documentation.
    • Provide advice on safety matters.
    • Oversee matters pertaining to safety within the office.
    • Coordinate with head of departments and key personnel to initiate, populate, and publish risk assessments (SIRA).
    • Ensure initiation and follow-up of internal occurrence/accident investigations.

Ideal candidate profile:

  • Practical experience and expertise in the application of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices;
  • Knowledge of ICAO standards and European requirements on safety management;
  • Proficient understanding of EASA regulations (Air Ops, SMS regulations, Part 145, Part M/CAMO).
  • Fully conversant and familiar with Safety Management Systems.
  • Experience in auditing techniques, knowledge of Human Factors, EWIS and Fuel Tank Safety.
  • A technical, aeronautical or engineering degree is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Information Technology and Web based systems and Windows.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken.

This position is only available to candidates who are ready to relocate to Malta or travel on a regular basis to our Malta office.
